PDP Swears In Oladipo As National Secretary

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sworn in Professor Adewale Oladipo as the national secretary of the party

A Federal High Court in Abuja had on Friday had asked the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to delete the name of the former secretary, Olagunsoye Oyinlola from their records and be replaced with Professor Wale Oladipo.

Justice Abdulkadir Abdul-Kafarati in a ruling ordered the PDP and INEC to replace Oyinlola with Professor Adewale Oladapo who was nominated by the Southwest PDP extra-ordinary zonal congress held in Ibadan on July 13..

The ruling was on a motion on notice filed by Adebayo Dayo and Semiu Sodipo, chairman and secretary of the Ogun State chapter of the PDP respectively. Justice Abdul-Kafarati discountenanced arguments by Oyinlola and held that a fresh application was neither meant to reopen the case nor to effect changes in the earlier delivered judgment, but to regularise the steps taken in compliance with the judgment.

National publicity secretary of the PDP, Chief Olisa Metuh, said the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party had an emergency meeting yesterday and decided to abide by last Friday's court judgment.

He said this is to demonstrate that the PDP respects the rule of law and abides by the decision of courts.

The swearing in ceremony was witnessed by the national chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur as well as leaders of the party from the South West geo-political zone.

The party also commended Dr. Remi Akitoye who has been acting as the national secretary of the party saying the party will not forget him.

Oladipo in his acceptance speech said he is loyal to President Goodluck Jonathan and the nation al leadership of the party and promised to work to ensure the PDP reclaims the Southwest saying they are tired of reaping where they did not sow but are ready to contribute to the success of the party.
