Amy Winehouse‘s parents Mitch and Janice Winehouse insist they will never allow a biopic of her life to be made.
Mitch and Janice Winehouse – who are
separated – would not be comfortable to see their late daughter’s life
story told on the big screen and would not sanction a film.
Janice insists she wouldn’t feel comfortable seeing a Hollywood
actress portray Amy – who tragically died from alcohol intoxication at
her home in Camden, north London, in July 2011 at the age of 27 – but
she and Mitch were happy to be involved in the upcoming documentary made
by ‘Senna‘ director Asif Kapadia.
When asked if she would allow a film about Amy’s life to be made, Janice told Bang Showbiz: ‘No
you couldn’t, oh no. You cannot have somebody else portraying her. We
were actually called in and we were talking about things so there will
be voices from family and friends talking about her [in the documentary]
but you can’t have someone playing Amy the character. There is only one
Amy.’
Mitch – who wrote his own 2012 autobiography ‘ Amy: My Daughter’ – added: ‘As far as a film is concerned there will never be a biopic, because they are all the same. Johnny Cash, Ray Charles you pick them up and put Amy in it’s exactly the same story. Everyone is bored with that stuff.’
Mitch set up the Amy Winehouse
Foundation in memory of his daughter to help homeless youngsters and
people struggling with substance abuse problems.
A month’s worth of events are taking in place in September to remember the ‘Back to Black’
singer entitled #Amys30 to mark what would have been her 30th birthday
on September 14. The #Amys30 events will be happening throughout
September in and around Camden, including music nights, pool
tournaments, a walking tour of Amy’s Camden, a vintage fair and a Pop Up
Shop at Camden Collective – all in aid of the Amy Winehouse Foundation.
