Amid tight security on Indonesia’s resort island of Bali, 23-year-old Megan Young representing Philippines has been crowned Miss World 2013.
‘I promise to be the best Miss World ever’,
Young said as she beat 127 other contestants including Nigeria’s rep,
MBGN 2013 winner Anna Banner to win the coveted title today September
28, 2013.
France and Ghana came in second and third position respectively. Nigeria did not reach the top ten final list.
The venue of the pageant was changed following protests by Muslim hardliner groups, Islamic Defenders Front.
The sect had asked the government to cancel the pageant because ‘it
shows too much skin and goes against Islamic teachings’, AP reports
Four contestants are reported to have pulled out earlier due to illness, one of the local organizers Syafril Nasution says.
